Brake Conversion

Brake ConversionBrake work is concentrated mainly on the vehicles built for customers or in controlled championship's and we have an allegiance to the American Willwood products, as they are robust and reliable. By selecting the right components, we ensure that the specification is correct to the application and by balancing piston sizes to rotor and brake pad materials we find that Willwood components meet the company's requirements in quality and cost.

As well as the Willwood products we carry an extensive range of other stock and offer advice to existing and new customers.

To maintain continuity in hydraulic systems we have a close working relationship with Goodridge a preferential supplier for all braided hoses and fittings. SHP Engineering has in the past contracted Goodridge as the sole supplier to produce brake, clutch and fuel kits for large vehicle programme builds. Sometimes single orders for 500 kits plus spare components, with our clients being satisfied with the quality of the product.

Gearbox & Transmission

Gearbox & TransmissionThis area of SHP Engineering business is possibly the least advertised although the company has excelled in producing several bespoke products, using its innovation and skills at reverse engineering.

The Desert Iris and Desert Raider both use an independent suspension system which was designed around trailing arms. SHP produced an aluminium cast case with enclosed quarter shafts. An innovative retaining system eliminated long grass and desert dust penetrating into the bearing housing. The third member from a Hilux was supplied by Toyota and fitted with an ARB locking system, clutch plated limited slip unit or electrical locking system.

A total of 600 final drive differential units were produced and sold together with bespoke hub carriers, twin heavy duty shimmed bearings and vented rear disc rotors, creating a big turnover of components.

Another area of expertise is the manufacture of live rear axles to accept early Ford Escort differentials. In addition heavy duty axles based on the Salisbury axle were produced from a Capri or lightweight Ford Transit axle. They were re-tubed and built into a heavy duty assembly with bespoke stud hubs fitted. These axles are used by the gladiatorial Pickup Truck Championship for which SHP Engineering is the licensed supplier.

SHP Engineering were recently contracted to design and develop a final drive transmission unit that is being fitted into the new generation Ferret scout security vehicle used in the Middle East. This project involved taking a full transmission system splitting the gearbox from axle, designing a new independent axle case to accept all the standard components, adding an adjustable pinion bearing cartridge to the new casting with mounting arms to maintain its position in the chassis.

SHP Engineering has reproduced the original Ford Rocket gearbox with an exceptionally strong aluminium case and a unique gear change system, all of which still retains the H pattern gear lever change. SHP has worked with a number of companies in the development of components for this product to gain durability and cost effective maintenance.

The English halfshafts produced by SHP are used by all the leading teams in National Hot Rod racing in the UK with production of this component in excess of six hundred units.

Suspension System

Suspension SystemsOur philosophy for suspension is to keep it simple, make it durable, decide what you want, possibly over engineer it and make sure it meets all the basic engineering requirements.

SHP Engineering is very good at manufacturing components in limited numbers and can produce components for large production runs with a large selection of machined parts that make up the suspension held in stock. SHP can quickly produce bespoke suspension components to customer requirements.

The applications has designed in the past have been used for a variety of vehicles from lightweight racers to commercial vehicles used in off road environments.

SHP has a good working relationship with prominent suppliers of shock absorbers, dampers and springs and we are agents for their products. This allows us to utilise their technical knowledge and expertise in selecting the product that best suits our customer’s requirements.

SHP produces anti roll bars not only for their own vehicles but to customer requests as bespoke items.

SHP is able to offer technical advice and workshop set up facilities.
