"Don’t stop us now cos were having such a good time..."

2010 sees a change in the marketing strategy for Pickup Truck Racing initially being actioned by changes to the bodywork that had been used for the last thirteen years.  The new styling will follow similar distinguishing features of current production pickup trucks.  This has been introduced to enable teams to source local dealership support of the marques they have chosen.

With a number of teams already taking the opportunity to upgrade their Pickups prior to the amnesty date of 4th July this will see several colour and graphic changes at the first round of the 2010 Championship.

In addition to the body changes a new engine has been introduced to the Pickup Truck Championship to reduce the accelerating costs of the highly tuned GM engine.  Introducing the new controlled Ford Ranger 2.3 Duratec Truck engine will offer new drivers and teams a cost effective alternative when joining the Championship.

The controlled engine package will include core OE engine, uprated connecting rods, pistons, high lift cam shaft with springs and hardware, inlet manifold and throttle bodies, wet sump system and controlled ECU.

The engine is tuned to replicate similar torque and horsepower to the GM unit it is replacing.  The engine package will be cost effective to purchase, easy to service by competent team mechanics and the build components will be supplied as off the shelf items.

The Pickup Management Team recognised the need for change and actioned a plan that will not only assist a number of the teams and existing sponsors and trade support partners to the Championship, but most importantly encourage others to join the adrenalin fuelled gladiatorial theatre motorsport named Pickup Truck Racing.

With Pickup Truck Racing now in its second decade of motor racing, who would have believed at its conception that a senior member representing the controlling body of UK motor racing stated that the series would not be permitted to enter the world of motorsport nor would it ever be accepted. 10 years on and the show is still strong. Meeting after meeting the gladiatorial warriors take up the challenge to do battle to prove who is the best. The drivers are not and when they are extracted from their enclosed steel chariots they are real people, the gentle giants of the theatre of motorsport. The statement that they are unable to perform is second to none. Yes they carry a lot of respect, they have charisma and a self presence about them and they are undoubtedly superstars in their own right, but have there feet permanently on the ground.

So what makes the championship so special to have survived ten years where others have failed?

It is through commitment, dedication and the ultimate vision of knowing there is a future. This has been created to the management team and there recentness drive to move the championship in to the

Theatre motorsport entertainment is making what is already the best better to the race fans and to offer the circuit owners top quality motor racing. It is a staggering requirement that everybody involved is a part of the show and it is about the quality presentation and through this it has allowed Pickup Truck Racing to continually eclipse all other motor sport in the UK and Europe.

So what separates Pickups from the rest?

  • All the drivers compete on equal terms
  • Specification of the Trucks are tightly policed
  • All drivers are pedigrees from other classes
  • The Top Guns have to start all races at the rear of the grid
  • A championship
  • Money will never win a championship
  • Teams are encouraged to be flamboyant
  • Equal opportunities for girls and boys to be
  • A management team who communicate
  • Two races per event at Rockingham totalling 100 miles
  • Races at speeds of 140mph
  • 300 people, who work hard, play hard
  • Team who’s soul objective is to please the race fans
  • One boss with a vision for the future

So where now, what will be Pickup Truck Racing in the future? For that you need to understand the man who is driving the machine never one for an interview, never to be photographed, but the one who has driven Pickup Truck Racing to get it where it is today.

To summarise if Pickup Truck Racing are able to achieve in the next ten years anywhere near what it has to date then it will be equal to the Craftsman in America, in fact will have surpassed even them.
