Background

Jaguar Land Rover Group and their marketing agency Imagination were looking for a spectacular  opportunity to promote the new Jaguar E-Pace and came up with the concept of recreating the famous barrel roll jump from the James Bond film, The Man With the Golden Gun.

The plan was for the final jump to take place at the Excel Centre in London under the watchful eye of the worlds press and guests in attendance.

Brief

Following on from the success of a previous Guinness world record (worlds largest loop the loop) with Jaguar, SHP were approached to work with the Jaguar team to manage the automotive engineering development to enable the E-Pace to achieve this one off stunt.

Solution

SHP proceeded to work with stunt driver Terry Grant and the engineering teams from Jaguar and Imagination.

A test facility was established at a private venue and the science of achieving the desired stunt was then worked through and tested.

The car itself was remarkably robust but quite a lot of work was required to ensure the corkscrew motion would work on the big attempt, with the car finishing on it’s wheels.

Results

After numerous late nights of work and problem solving the day of the public attempt was upon us which all went as the tests proved, with a Guinness World Record for the Jaguar E-Pace.
